Dad

After having dealt with so many health problems over the years, two days ago, after I got home from work, Anthony broke the news that my Dad passed away. The single most devastating event in my life to date.

Although he had his faults, as all of us do, he was an amazing, funny, silly, smart, caring, sensitive man, and I will forever miss him. My brother, Anthony, and I were able to fly back east to visit him on Father's Day weekend, where we spent time at his hospital bedside just talking with him about what we were doing with our lives, reminiscing about things we had already done, and just trying to make him as comfortable as possible. While he was in a lot of pain at the time, we were able to make him genuinely smile and laugh at our stories, and that is something I will never forget - being able to lighten his heart while we were there, and seeing some of that spark come back to his eyes.

The biggest regret I have is not being able to talk to him again or hear his voice after we left New Jersey, or being with him when the time came, but knowing that he wasn't alone, and was surrounded by people who loved him (his girlfriend, sister, and best childhood friend), and that he went peacefully and without any pain while they were holding his hands and talking to him, that is something I can take comfort in.

Friends and family have been so supportive over these past few days. Their kind words have truly touched me, and have, without a doubt, helped the healing process.

I love you Dad.

Yours Always,
Cassie

  1. Sending you so much love hon. I had no idea that it was so recent that he left. My father passed several years ago and I still miss him every day. So glad that you got to spend that time with him recently. I will be thinking of you and sending lots of love and light your way.
