Words & Photography
by Jeannie Naylor

We haven't even been home a week and I miss vacation me. I've been mulling it over and realize it's not that I miss how I feel or talk or dress on vacation. It's not like I'm some super relaxed version of myself when we're away from home (have you ever potty trained a kid at the beach- not exactly restful), or that I lose all my anxious tendencies (I really should stop watching Shark Week), but it's that I'm much more intentional on vacation.

I wake up early because there are only seven sunrises over the ocean to see. I plan ahead for activities that I know we'd hate to miss. I schedule time to sit and talk with each of my people. I splurge on things I love and don't buy little junk that will just take up space in the car. I take solo walks and I leave the phone and social networks on the nightstand. I miss being that person and I realize it's easier to be her when away from home, but it isn't impossible because I am her. I'm just a lazier version of her when the days seem endless and I'm numb to the beauty that surrounds me.

All that to say, a new school year brings some new goals in this life of mine. If anyone has any tips on living intentionally, I'm all ears.
