Don't Forget Who You Are In Real Life

I’ve been the married mom, the divorced mom, the single mom, the working mom, the stay at home mom, the tired mom, the mom who wakes up early to make breakfast and pack a lunch, and also the mom who stays in her yoga pants for a whole day with greasy hair and yesterday’s makeup on while binge watching Netflix. For the last three months I’ve let my child eat candy just about everyday and I’ve paid dearly for it, and this morning I made her a healthy, green smoothie which she promptly told me she wasn’t going to drink.

Some days I look at all you fine mamas on here and think to myself...I don’t keep my house spotless 24/7. I don’t dress my child in the trendiest clothes. I don’t buy my child wooden toys. I don’t always shop local. I hardly ever shop small shops online. I don’t make my child whole wheat, spinach, flax seed, chia seed, egg free, gluten free, dairy free pancakes in the shape of a unicorn with a mountain of whipped cream and cherries on top every morning. Am I even a good mom?

But we’re really all the same. We’re all just trying to figure out how to raise good and healthy humans, who lost our coffee only to find it in the microwave hours later, who put our families first and ourselves last. Some days feel like they’re Pinterest perfect and other days you’re cleaning poop out of your almost-4-year-old’s underwear. Don’t forget who you are in real life.
