As I was putting shoes on the correct feet and zipping up jackets to go for a sunny morning walk to our favorite local coffee shop, I started thinking about a few things—as I am known to do.
I thought about why we love going to Blue Beard Coffee so much. It began first and foremost because of the proximity—not only local, but just a few short blocks from our home. From there we found comfort in a familiar setting and the familiar faces. The kind hello’s, the helping hands, and all the doting comments for our little girlies (they are quite fond of all the attention).

Our family feels welcome, known, and accepted (which is a big deal when you bring along two 1.5 year olds and all their noise and messes—oh the noise. Oh the messes). Anyway, as we were beginning our walk to cocoa, I thought of all the ways and whys I’ve come to love supporting this business. And then I thought about that in reference to my own business.
Much like coffee shops, there is no shortage of makers and artisans keeping shop, on and off the internet. So what is that might make my business the one you choose to come to? Could it be proximity? Maybe you like to shop local. Could it be familiarity? Maybe you know me, or you’ve been following our story. Could it be that we share similar values? There’s something about supporting a shop that aligns with your personal views.
I often wish I had a real shop, so I could welcome you into a soothing and inspired atmosphere. A place where you’d feel your imagination coming to life, and the weight of the world coming off your shoulders. I would wish it to be the kind of place you want to come back to, and as you do, a friendship would be built. You’d be known. You’d be valued and deeply appreciated.
I suppose maybe there is a little bit of that in this online space, and I’m trying to make the best of it. But oh how I wish we could all share in the unparalleled joy of real life togetherness. But really I am thankful, even without real doors to open for you, I’m glad you’re here.
