As I try to continue reducing our air conditioning usage and to eat greener, I’ve made the effort to step away from the oven during the summer months. This has meant turning towards steaming, blanching, pickling or simply not cooking ingredients at all.As someone who loves to bake I tend to be over-reliant on my oven. As I try to continue reducing our air conditioning usage and to eat greener, I’ve made the effort to step away from the oven during the summer months. This has meant turning towards steaming, blanching, pickling or simply not cooking ingredients at all. Choosing to not cool a hot room down to then heat it up again has meant adapting to the climate rather than forcing the climate to adapt to me. It’s something of a holistic approach and I have to say that it’s been deeply rewarding, and as this photo testifies to, it hasn’t been particularly tough on the tastebuds either.
