"Find delight in the process", my friend said across the table on an especially chilly grey morning. "Without delight, you will never find the success you are seeking."

Delight in the mottled green skin of the pear, and the white flesh inside. Delight in the perfect little circle left after coring. Delight in the fluffy lightness of the whipped butter. Delight in the smooth creamy batter as it flows from the bowl and folds into itself in the pan. Delight in the scent of thyme and cardamom as they alight in the corners of the house. Delight as I watch my mother’s hands work to slice the first piece from the cake.
