Unexpected Circumstances

Words & Photography
by Melissa Cunningham

I'm big on morning rituals but even bigger on being flexible when circumstances go unexpectedly.
...the truth is...it wasn't the experimental flask, it was the walking in when it's quiet, making a cup of something, and sitting for a bit before the house stirred. And I can do that just about anywhere...
So my dad broke my Chemex yesterday and almost cussed (!) and told me he'd buy me another "one of those....experimental flask things." And I busted up and said don't worry about it, it's just another coffee maker. Because the truth is...it wasn't the experimental flask, it was the walking in when it's quiet, making a cup of something, and sitting for a bit before the house stirred. And I can do that just about anywhere, with anything (and I've had mornings when this is not even possible but I enjoy them just the same, maybe I just love mornings). Im grateful to my parents today who, for all of our differences and bad words back and forth and stressors with each other, have supported me a heck of a lot the past few months.
