Words & Photography

Last week, Caleb and I made our way over to Meghan’s home after a long weekend of back-to-back shooting, working, and traveling. We shared stories as we walked through her farm, and she expressed all of her love for the land on which she works and the animals that she cares for. We made our way to her workspace where we played with the clay, and I watched in awe of how this woman creates and cultivates beautiful pieces with her hard working hands.

My only complaint was that we didn’t have more time. It was so refreshing to disconnect for the morning and feel a sense of the slow and present lifestyle of Meghan and her family. I noted how there was no such thing as "multitasking" when sharing in the activities Meghan takes part in each and every day. When her hands are in the dirt, they are in the dirt. When her hands are covered in clay, she is creating and making. This is something I want to take part in more in ALL aspects of my life.

Lately, I sometimes I find myself guilty of "multitasking" during times when I should be solely focused one thing. Whether that be eating a meal, creating for clients, spending quality time with loved ones, anything really. This is naturally how I have been most of my life...but this industry can trick you into thinking that being hyper connected or multitasking is necessary in order to fulfill your goals of your self-taught career you began when you were 16, or in order to be 19 years old, married and NOT homeless (which doesn’t actually sound so bad haha). Basically, it tricks you into thinking it’s necessary in order to be “successful”. But my brain isn’t very good at multitasking anyway, so I guess this revised goal of mine will be a complete relief for my personality.

Thank you Meghan for the wonderful morning and allowing me to get my hands in the clay! So looking forward to our next play date.
