The Good Ole Days

Thursday, April 30, 2020

Words & Photography

I just had a moment of panic when I
picked up my phone and saw the time,
thinking I needed to be running out the door
to get the boys off the bus. Ha!
A little flash back to the good ole days I guess.

Kentucky Paradise

Wednesday, April 29, 2020

Hi, welcome to our little slice of Kentucky paradise.

We had originally planned to be traveling coast to coast in our RV this year, but, of course, those plans have been put on hold until further notice. Soooo, we did what any normal person (who lives in a tiny home) would do...we found some projects to keep us busy!
We had originally planned to be traveling coast to coast in our RV this year, but, of course, those plans have been put on hold until further notice. Soooo...we found some projects to keep us busy!
First up was creating a little patio outside of our RV to enjoy on these sunny days (and also expand the space that we’re in while we’re parked at home here in Kentucky right now). We wanted it to feel like our own little private villa by the beach, and I have to say...we really didn’t do half bad! All we’re missing is the sound of the waves and the smell of the ocean.

Stocked up on fruit and vegetables for the coming week
and I have to say, I enjoy meal-planning
for a whole week more than I thought.
(Also very important: an always full cookie jar!)

What’s giving you joy right now?
For me it has been plants, but’s that no secret!
During this quarantine I’ve been
learning so much more about my green friends
and it gives me happiness taking care of them.

Homemade Sourdough Journey

These are my first two loaves. I have spent many hours reading and learning, feeding my starters, and experimenting. I am trying to figure it all out and become familiar and comfortable with the process.
And just like that, my homemade sourdough journey has begun. These are my first two loaves. I have spent many hours reading and learning, feeding my starters, and experimenting. I am trying to figure it all out and become familiar and comfortable with the process. It takes patience, something I definitely need to practice more, but the joy of making bread at home from scratch with just flour, water, and salt, and feeding my family fresh bread is so rewarding

Accurate Depiction

Nothing new going on in this house,
but this is a pretty accurate depiction-
lots of snacking, and some of us
have mastered the skill of tuning out noise.

Fresh Baked Scones

Fresh baked buttermilk lemon lavender scones.
All I have to say is they were eaten in one sitting
by my family who claims to be opposed
to both scones and lavender.

When The World Is Upside Down

Late to the party, but I'm discovering
a love for baking after all these years.
I am certainly not the best baker
(my efforts taste good, but could definitely be prettier).
It’s really quite cathartic at a time
when the world is upside down.

Yesterday the sun shone in, and it was enough. Today the sun is tucked away behind the clouds, but I’ll find something else.
Yesterday the sun shone in, and it was enough. Today the sun is tucked away behind the clouds, but I’ll find something else. Tomorrow it might be my children’s laughter, and the next day perhaps yet another batch of freshly baked cookies. I just need one thing. What about you? What small things are getting you through each day?

Also, who else is going to eat a dozen deviled eggs,
even if it's by yourself on the couch?
Meeeeee!

Moments Of Calm

Thursday, April 9, 2020

Words & Photography

Truly grateful my husband is home with me today and tomorrow. A slight reprieve, a respite together.

He is considered essential and has been working so much lately out in the midst of the public, we haven’t had much time together, more than a day or few hours in the evening here and there at all in the last several weeks, leaving him exhausted. My anxiety is through the roof lately worrying about him and everything else.
I’ve stopped reading the news every five minutes and tried to breathe from social media because it only fuels my fear. Instead, I have been checking in on friends, lots of prayer, taking long walks after work, and reordering my days to flow as normally as possible...
I’ve stopped reading the news every five minutes and tried to breathe from social media because it only fuels my fear. Instead, I have been checking in on friends, lots of prayer, taking long walks after work, and reordering my days to flow as normally as possible in spite of my own work ramping up. Also finding some calm in our pre-pandemic weekend routine of coffee, Netflix, Instagram memes and never leaving the house.

I hope you all are staying safe, healthy, and resting in moments of calm.

Little Things

Wednesday, April 8, 2020

What little things are making you happy right now? Mine include: all things green and growing, hugs from my kids, sunshine, fresh eggs, puppy kisses, and clean spaces. Admittedly, we’ve been struggling with that last one.
What little things are making you happy right now? Mine include: all things green and growing, hugs from my kids, sunshine, fresh eggs, puppy kisses, and clean spaces. Admittedly, we’ve been struggling with that last one. The kids are ripping through each room like tiny tornadoes. The mess and the dishes feel never-ending. But, my goals are to decorate and organize some small spots to make me smile - like this tidy, rustic spring tray - and do a deep clean of other areas on my long, spring farmhouse to-do list.

Proactive Vs. Reactive

Tuesday, April 7, 2020

Words & Photography

I’ve been a little quiet over here because I’m still processing and trying to get my bearings. Opening up this app feels like information overload right now - and that’s not to say what’s being posted isn’t helpful or creative or uplifting or worth reading - I just haven’t felt ready to take part.
You know, not allowing conditions or circumstances to dictate my response but instead taking the time to pause and then choose how I want to respond to the conditions and circumstances.
I’ve been thinking a lot about being proactive vs. reactive. You know, not allowing conditions or circumstances to dictate my response but instead taking the time to pause and then choose how I want to respond to the conditions and circumstances. So I’m here, sitting in that pause, considering how we might make it through the next little while.

Hope you’re all taking care, making smart choices, and looking for the good. In this together, just not together.

Staying Positive

We checked in with our neighbors to see if they needed anything and they've checked on us as well. It's the little, simple things that go a long way and which help us stay positive and support our community.
Spending time at home is ideal for house projects and decluttering! We've been spending our day cleaning and finishing up the priming of our livingroom. We checked in with our neighbors to see if they needed anything and they've checked on us as well. It's the little, simple things that go a long way and which help us stay positive and support our community.

Learning New Ways

Wednesday, April 1, 2020

Words & Photography
by Alyson Morgan

We’re adjusting to a new “normal” and it hasn’t felt easy. On one hand, I want things to feel like they were before, but life is far from it, and our new routines and rhythms haven’t quite fallen into place. Not being able to walk to the coop together, see friends, gather in community, and have time to ourselves...we are spending more time in our living space. Slowly but surely, we are learning new ways.

One thing that I’m getting the hang of is how to incorporate little hands into daily and weekly chores. Things I’d do myself while they were out of the house or at school, we’re doing together. I remembered in Waldorf education the idea that tasks and chores that we find tedious are fun for littles.
One thing that I’m getting the hang of is how to incorporate little hands into daily and weekly chores. Things I’d do myself while they were out of the house or at school, we’re doing together.
So yesterday I filled our bowl with soapy water and pulled out rags and brushes and we got to work on the kitchen floor. The kiddos had great fun, splashing and scrubbing. Magnolia has been taking a turn at dishes here and there and it’s been helping to lighten the load. It’s a lesson to us that we all need to lend a hand to care and tend for our home.

How are you adjusting to a new “normal”?
